Quick update

Rock N Roll Marathon Countdown
Days to Go: 32 Days
Today’s Temperature in San Diego: 57°F 14°C Clear

Yesterday I was a strong cookie. I went out to the back bay of Newport with Coach Paul, Gwynne, and other TNT'ers yesterday... we ended up doing 7 miles yesterday when we were only supposed to do 6! I am hoping today will be just as nice and I will be strong yet again for a hopeful 7 miles! We will see how Paul is feeling and if the consensus leads us to push out an extra mile...

Stay tuned!

After our run yesterday almost everyone joined in on dinner at Souplantation and we ate, and ate, and ate some more! I was so full that when I woke up this morning I ended up skipping breakfast! We had fun and although Jason (honored teammate) was cranky from the steroids and other medications he is on this week! He was still such a cutie!!!

I am a little tired today and my headache came back briefly... I took some Advil at lunch and now I am cured! I am getting really excited for the marathon and yet nerves are starting to set in. I am doing lunch walks tomorrow and on Friday... I am having a fun week!

Well I gotta run (literally), enjoy the brief update... tomorrow will not be so brief, LOL!

Rested!

My head feels better today. I had such a great nights sleep... I did even wake up once in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, LOL! That rarely happens but it felt so good and was much needed. I didn't get to relax and fall asleep until 11:30pm... that is when I was done with laundry, cutting up strawberries (not impressed with by the way), and I had to have a shower. Apparently Jeremy didn't sleep well either because it was so dang hot in our place. He has now brought up the portable air conditioner that was downstairs by our siding glass door... it is now in our bedroom space (next to his bed)! So we should be FREEZING soon while we sleep! The funniest part about it was that the plug upstairs can't take the load of the air conditioner so of course it tripped the breaker. I was then left to cutting strawberries in a semi-dark kitchen, LOL! The lights in the living room worked but not the kitchen... GOOD times at 11pm!!!!

Plan B (this was my idea!) is to get an extension cord that is long enough to be plugged in from the downstairs outlet where it was plugged in before. We will only plug this in when we sleep so we can hide the cords when it is not needed during its unused time. We don't like to have cords dangling around for our few guests who come over, LOL!

Today I feel Great! I am not sore at all!!! I had a great nights sleep and I am ready to run the back bay this afternoon with my TNT group! I am hoping for a 7-miler today since we have more time to do it today than we do tomorrow. So the mental plan for me is 7 today and 6 tomorrow!

Thank you for praying for me on my headache... I feel no pain today! It is so nice!!! Yesterday I took 800mg of Ibuprofen... I can't take less because my body is immune to this stuff! I guess suffering from migraines since I can remember... has this effect on drugs that help the pain!

On a fundraising note... I am only $117 dollars away to making my goal mark! I received $120 dollars yesterday in my tap class for my tapping friends and I will be receiving $150 from my mom and her friends/family who have also donated to finding a cure for this horrible disease!

Back to the Berries... why was I not impressed with the strawberries.... you may ask? Well lets just say I ended up throwing half of them away. They were pretty strawberries on top but the ones on the bottom work dark and mushy... I like mine with some firmness and not mushy! So in the trash they went... well only half of them went. They were on sale at my local Ralph's Market and so I bought them! But honestly I think Sam's Club offered a better bang for your buck! I bought strawberries a few weeks ago and only threw a few away. I think it cost me half of what I paid for at Ralph's (on sale) and the finished amount of cut up strawberries were the same! It seemed like a better deal at Ralph's but with all the ones that were bad... the deal was not so good!

Lastly I am excited to announce my friend Amantha who is an awesome swing dancer... has decided to join Team in Training for the Fall Season which begins in June (I think)! She is signing up for her first marathon : NIKE WOMEN'S MARATHON in San Francisco! I am looking into mentoring for this event next season... more on that to come! I am unsure about running the actual event... although it will be cool to do and the weather should be NICE... I don't want to wreck my knees and shins so I think I will just run half marathons for a while and do one marathon a year... depending on how this one goes! I love to run and I love this organization! I just don't want to regret doing this sport years to come!

Very interesting

I actually felt much better on the 18 mile run compared to the 14 mile run last Saturday. Although the weather from last Saturday was perfect for running. This weekend was BLAZING HOT! I consumed many smoothies and so much Gatorade/water during the run and even after the run. Surprisingly I was hungry during the run and really ate a lot of fruit after the run. Timing wise, I was ok! We (me and my partner Kim) ran the 18 miler in under an 11:30 pace per mile! We did walk when needed and make one pit stop in mile 2 for the restrooms, LOL!

It is so funny how when we begin a long run we talk a-lot and get to know each other more than the week before. But once we are 3 miles to being done. We have nothing to say and are in complete concentration to the ultimate goal... being done! Kim is a great partner to have because she and I have the same pace and are both willing to walk when it is needed for each other!

We plan on running starting next Monday together at Mile Square Park. She will be done with her college classes on May 10th and then she will have more time to run with people! She mentioned going to the back bay on Tuesday's and Thursday's...

As for this week we are scheduled for 33 miles and I will resume my training tomorrow with a 7 mile back bay run on Tuesday - a 6 mile back bay run on Wednesday - and two 30 min walks (one on Thursday's lunch and the other on Friday's lunch). I hope my miles match that of the TNT schedule but if I am short a few miles I will enjoy an evening run with Jeremy around the beach on Thursday! MY GOAL this week is to complete ALL 33 miles either by a nice paced run or a good paced walk!

Today is a rest day so I will be tap dancing and doing laundry! I also bought a bunch of strawberries and I am going to cut them up for some dessert tonight! If the weather starts to cool down I may even make some banana bread tomorrow night... we will see! Today it is cooler but still muggy hot! This weekends was in the 90s and then today is supposed to peak in the 80s... so it is going in the right direction for Saturday!

This weekend we did go to Disney and I did swing dance to about 4-6 songs! We rode splash mountain and I sat in the front, LOL! I got hit by 2 waves of water and was completely soaked. I even had goose bumps when I got off the ride... that was the only time this weekend I felt cool, LOL! Yesterday I bowled in my league and because I felt so good on Saturday... my soreness was limited so bowling was Good! I had a 390 series which breaks down to a 130 average! That is my highest series in at least 3 months! My highest series ever is 422 so I was pleased!

I have been fighting a migraine since Saturday and it is still lingering! Please pray this goes away so I can start concentrating on things other than taking medicine for my achy head! I am trying to function on Excedrin, coffee, tea and anything else that is caffeinated to help my head. It helps but it is not cured and it is causing me to toss and turn at night! I did get 4 straight hours of sleep but after that I tossed and turned. The weather his hot and my head is throbbing!

:::PEACE:::

Happy Friday

Congrats to a GREAT Day!

I have 38 more days until race day! Tomorrow is my big day 18 mile run and it is supposed to be a hot 86 degrees so wish me luck :)

Not much going on here... I did go for a 30 minute walk on Thursday during my lunch and then a 20 minute walk today! It was so nice outside, that it was hard to come back to work and sit! With both days added up together I walked 3+ miles at work with a 16 mile pace! This is good (not great) but good. I need to get a faster walking pace so I can prepare myself for those walk breaks on the course during my marathon or in my practice runs. This will help me to maintain an overall good pace with breaks when needed!

Yesterday I went to bed super early. The weather is changing and sometimes the drastic changes causes me to get a headache/migraine! Well yesterday I had a bad headache that lingered all day long! I refused to take anything and for that I am thankful it didn't progress to a migraine! So after tap class, I ate dinner, took a shower, and went to bed... all before 9pm, which is not like me!

I do feel very rested and knocking on my granite counter tops here at work I don't/won't get a headache today!

I will try to post tomorrow after my run and once I get settled at home! Pray all goes well for me tomorrow!

Sorry I have little to say today... be thankful... I usually can't shut up, LOL! I usually have great stories on long runs to tell you so be prepared for that on my next post!

Have a great weekend... and thanks for checking on me... stay cool!

The Disneyland® Half Marathon Info

Returns August 29 - 31, 2008. Start planning now to join us in Anaheim over Labor Day Weekend for your shot at the coveted castle finisher medal.

The course for this fantastic event will take runners from the Anaheim Convention Center, the largest exhibit facility on the west coast, to Disney's California Adventure® Park, celebrating California's storied past and exciting future, to the Disneyland® Park where you will explore the fantastic "lands" of nostalgia, color and delight. Then it is on to the scenic streets of Anaheim, past the Honda Center, home of the Anaheim Mighty Ducks, along the Santa Ana Trail overlooking the Santa Ana River, through Angel Stadium, home of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, and finally back through Disney's California Adventure® Park for an exciting finish of the Happiest Race on Earth! Ideal weather and a flat loop course set the stage for an exhilarating Half Marathon designed to shatter personal bests.

The actual race is at 6am on August 31st! I am excited... this will be my next big race of the year and it sounds like a wonderful event!

Once I complete the Disney Half Marathon (13.1 miles)... I will have ran 4 Big RACES since Feb. 2007!
  • Pacific Shoreline Half Marathon 2007 (results 2:45)
  • Surf City Half Marathon 2008 (results 2:39)
  • Rock-n-Roll FULL Marathon 2008 (results to be announced)
  • Disneyland Half Marathon 2008 (results to be announced)

That is exciting stuff in my world... thanks for sticking around with Melissa Live!

Getting ready for 18 miles

38 days until race day! Today’s Temperaturein San Diego, CA: 57°F 14°C and Clear!! 2 More days until I hit my first 18 mile run!!!

I don't have much to report to you today. I ran a 10:44 pace with coach yesterday and although I like running a bit faster (10:16 or 10:22) We had a great deal of headwind and then after we turned around to head back to our starting point... the wind changed... not in our favor, as we had more headwind. That really slows you down, LOL! See my time for proof. The better paces = quicker finish times. My ultimate goal is to just finish! A personal goal is to beat my time at the 13.1 mile marker (2:39). Also, it would be cool to finish the race in 5 and 1/2 hours or less. Since we have 7 hours to complete the race, their is no real pressure... but yet another personal goal!

Last night after my run I went to Zpizza and tried to get them to donate 4 pizza's for a fundraiser/event this Sunday. I have to call the boss around 10am... By the way I have a weakness.... I love PIZZA! So while I was there... I ordered me a Z10 (personal size pizza) Italian and Jeremy got a Z10 Mexican. The best part about it was... I had a coupon... spend $15 and get a free Z10... since I was short on the $15 mark I purchased the Zbbq salad... Jeremy and I love that salad! I may have the salad for dinner tonight... unless Jeremy beats me to it! The competition when he is off work is incredible, LOL!

While my pizza was in the oven... I went next door to Dip-n-Dots and had a serving of dessert! It was tasty but not a good diet plan, LOL! I need to work on a better diet after runs, LOL! I am cracking myself up!

Today and tomorrow I am preparing for my Saturday run. Hydration is key and the weather is supposed to be 86 degrees with Santa Ana conditions. Today I have tap class and I am very excited for that but then I am resting afterwards. I am planning on watching "Game Plan" from my netflix rentals. I have had that movie at home since March 3rd... I have been to busy or too tired to sit and watch my movies... So I will attempt to do so today! Tomorrow Jeremy and I are going to have some quality time together! We have plans to go to dinner and then home to watch a movie! I have to try and get a good night sleep for Saturday so it is going to be a date that ends early!

Thanks for checking on me!

Warning

39 days until race day :)

Warning... this post contains a lot of content!

Since my last post on Monday, many things had changes. I have been working on a grand opening for a project at work and was on-call to work the event that took place last night! Well I was informed on Monday (shortly after my last post) that I was indeed working at the event, which was located in Fontana! Let me just say how impressed I am with the company I work for, their homes are beautiful and actually have backyards. This is impressive as most new homes in California are sandwiched so close together and have no backyards... you get a cement slab with a little grass, LOL! Got to love it! Well I was impressed! The prices are very reasonable too $320K-$419K, unfortunately they are not close to the beach and Jeremy loves the beach! Here is a link to the video of our event (my boss is Hal Woods). http://video.ap.org/v/Legacy.aspx?g=e213a8ac-b96d-4ca8-8c07-b7dc818639d6&mk=en-ap&f=casan&fg=email

Since my plans changed in that regard. I informed my hubby and he wasn't at all upset about missing the run yesterday with my gang. I think the 6 miles made him nervous! I tried really hard to get him to commit to my run today with Coach Paul for the 7 miles, but no luck their! He said this morning he was tired!

Well I am sure he is, I have no idea what time he came home from dancing. I think he danced at Rock Harbor for 2 hrs and then danced at Atomic Ballroom until who knows, LOL! He is a dancing machine and I love it!

Today as I mentioned above, I will be running 7 miles and I feel pretty good. I am SO looking forward to the run today, Literally!!!!! Yesterday was such a drag! I ran 6 WHOLE miles on the dreaded treadmill and the whole time I was thinking about how much better it is to be outside running. When I got to certain points in the miles I pictured myself at the back bay looking at the beautiful scenery! Oh, how I missed them yesterday!

I got home from the gym, talked to my dad, took a shower, and then put on my favorite night time movie... Winnie The Pooh! That always helps me get a good night sleep with sweet dreams! My friend Donna got me hooked on Pooh, thanks a bunch Donna... I love it! :)

Am I on track, YES! Are my knees hurting, Not Yet! Did I ice them last night, nope... but thought about it... they hurt last night and then it went away by morning :)

My dad told me some great comments... Thank you so much for those wonderful comments! I love it! I also love the fact that my hits on this site have already broke 310! Keep checking on me as I enjoy keeping you all "LIVE" in my training world! You are a cheerleader and you help me get through the tough times... like yesterday! Jeremy was a big help their too! If it wasn't for you and him... I would have watched a movie and maybe even been lazy after working 11 hours yesterday, instead I went to the gym :) the smiley face is because I did this when I didn't want to and because I don't have to do the run at the gym today! Also, thank you Aunt Donna for your comment too... dad told me last night!

As far as fundraising goes. My Rubio's fundraiser check came in the mail yesterday and totaled $9.94! Thank you for participating in that event... I am now 1% closer to my goal :)~ I don't have time to do another one of those events so now I am just waiting patiently and trusting God for other donations. See my progress at http://www.active.com/donate/tntors/tntorsMPires! You don't have to donate to see my progress... also you can see those who have donated. I have a bunch of people on the list and some companies :) I am amazed at my progress, it is truly amazing how God works these miracles out!

When I first joined Team in Training in January, I attended a meeting with my dad! I wanted my virtual passenger with me in real life, LOL! When I received my welcome packet and saw all the material, I was SOLD... until I hit the part about donations... I thought, HOW can I raise $2,800? Well here I am in April and I am at $2,416! AMEN!!!!!!! I am not done yet but I am so close and for that I am thankful. Once I reach my goal, I hope it continues as I can win prizes for going over the minimum. MOST importantly though for after I hit the minimum mark, 100% of what I raise goes towards finding a cure via research and patient care! That is 100%, that is exciting to know that I am making a difference and so are you for helping me get through them too!!!!! My strength to get me through these miles come from knowing this! Right now and until the minimum has been reached 75% of the funds raised goes towards the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and the other 25% is what it costs for me to do this program! Thank you for all of your support! Sorry if I rambled... I am just so excited!

Thursday is rest and tap class and Friday is rest only! Remember to pray for me on Saturday at 7:15am, as I begin my 18 mile run!

A rough start for a strong finish!

41 days until race day :)

This weekend was rough. Although the weather was PERFECT for running. I picked up a bug and it hit me on Saturday. I have had some sort of stomach virus all weekend. I did manage to bowl yesterday and I even bowled my average! I tried not letting the bug get me down so I continued on my weekend tasks by still going to disney and souplantation! I repotted a plant and potted a new plant for my balcony. Now I have 4 Plumeria Trees and 2 Palm Trees and 1 Christmas Cactus! It is so beautiful and I love to admire them in my spare time!

Saturday was 14 miles and I am still sore, LOL! This Saturday I will be breaking another record! I have NEVER ran 18 miles in one day... so let's start now! I will be doing 18 on Saturday :) Wish me luck! I have ice packs prepared for this week, lOL! I am hoping for a strong 18-miler... but I like to be prepared for my knees sake!

On Saturday I felt some pain in my right knee while running and then on Sunday they both ached a little! Not to worry, ice ALWAYS helps!

Some exciting news for this week is that Jeremy is off from FEDEX this whole week! So I get to see my hubby a little more than normal :) Also I talked him into a 6 mile run tomorrow with TNT people so if Gwynne is reading this... you will see him with us! Let's cheer him on, this will be his first 6-miler! Way to go hunny.... I am so proud of him for doing this with me!

So besides tomorrow's run, he is going to go to ROCK HARBOR church and swing dance... we will see if he will feel like doing it after running, LOL! He does and my tummy feels better than I may go with him! ANOTHER we will see!

Wednesday is 7 miles with Coach Paul at the Back Bay of Newport and then I am taking Thursday and Friday off so my knees can recoup for 18 miles on Saturday! I keep saying it because I can't believe that I am going to run that much so SOON! LOL!!!!

Today is Monday... so HAPPY MONDAY! Jeremy and I have laundry and grocery shopping on the menu for today! It is nice that he will be here to help as my stomach is not 100% yet!

Exercise Summary:
I will be doing 31 miles out of 39 this week! In addition to those miles, I am taking tap class for 1hr on Monday and Thursday, doing some swing dancing on Saturday at Disney, and bowling in my league on Sunday!

TGIF!

Happy Friday everyone.

44 days to go until race day!

I have completed 15.68 miles in mid-week training and will be completing 14 miles tomorrow with the TNT Team for a total of 29.68 miles this week! The goal this week was to complete 33 miles so I am not to far off, I do alot of other things to make up for it so my coaches are very happy with me! They don't want any more team injuries and I am injury free so far, way to go and Whoo Hoo!

After work yesterday I went to my tap class and enjoyed every bit of it :), I came home and made myself some Healthy Choice Cheese Pizza... I kind of burnt it, LOL! Then I ran 2.68 miles with Jeremy at around 9:40pm.

He is feeling better from the cold that hit him on Sunday night. I have no symptoms, Yipee!!! I think we ran pretty good, it was a little slower than last Thursday but nonetheless a GREAT accomplishment for both of us.

I got the shower first and then off to bed, I went!

Today I am to rest, hydrate, and nurish my body for the 14 mile run. Our Head Coach wants us to work on pace and endurance to make our run a "Feel Good" experience. I pray I have a strong run tomorrow and then I have NO plans after that... except for my usual Disneyland Swing Dancing Saturday evening (cross training) and on Sunday I am bowling in my League in the evening.

Every Saturday Jeremy and I take turns for choosing our dinner date place and this Saturday it is my turn and I have made my decision... SOUPLANTATION! #1 is because my friend works their #2 I want to see her #3 I want to support her by giving her a big tip! After that we will be full and ready for some fun times at Disney!

PS: I am leaving myself open for any friends who want to hang out... I am free mid-day on Saturday and all day on Sunday before bowling @ 5:30! Call me to hang out!

Thanks for checking in on me!

Rock N Roll Marathon Countdown

Days to Go: 45 Days
Today’s Temperature in San Diego, CA : 68°F 20°C Clear

I am going to start each blog starting tomorrow with the countdown to the big day! Excitement and nerves are what I am feeling right now!

Busy Bee

Yesterday I had a very nice 7 mile run with my coach. It was the perfect thing to end my busy day. I am not kidding about the busy part, LOL! Here is my day: I had a doctors appointment, then worked two jobs yesterday. While on my lunch I had my front right tire taken off to fix a rim that I accidently scratched while parking in my work parking lot on Friday of last week that took up my full hour. I also have to go back today to put the nicely fixed rim and tire put on my car on my lunch today. This means I will have two late lunches back to back. So after all that I had that beautifl run and went home... got comfy and ate dinner around 8pm. When I got home and started to heat up my Healthy Choice Cheese Pizza in the toaster oven I started feeling lightheaded from going to long w/o food. I started to drink more juice in the house to get my glucose level up... since I am occasionally hyphoglycemic per doctors blood tests. Although lately my test came up GOOD!

So while the dinner was cooking and I was drinking my juice, I noticed my banana's from the weekend where looking pretty ripe. SO a decision had to be made.
1) throw the banana's away
2) make banana bread today
3) wait and see for tomorrow on both options 1 or 2
I decided to go ahead and make the banana bread. I don't like the smell of banana's when they are REALLY ripe, so here I was... baking! I have a kitchenaid mixer so it was pretty easy and not to bad on the clean-up. The bread was out of the oven just in time for the house to cool off for when Jeremy came home so he was THRILLED to have homemade banana bread waiting for him when he came home. It was so good that we are not sharing with my work or his.

Usually we take a plate full of sliced bread to our jobs and let all enjoy it! This time its just for us! Not being selfish or anything... it just has been so long since I made any! It was missed!

A funny side note, I had to think on using the oven. I haven't used it in so long... I was losing touch with the concept, LOL! If you seen our lovely home you would understand on the reasons for not using our oven. Our place is 535 sf. and heats up very quickly whenever we use our oven... it is great news most of the time because I don't have to cook, LOL! Occasionally though a home cooked meal is wonderful!

My hubby has had a headcold all week! I am praying that it doesn't attack me, only time will tell! I have been getting extra rest this week and since he is not running in the evenings that means today is all up to me. I have been getting soreness in my knees on the last few runs but after I am running and I start to relax they feel better. I think it is the hills and my legs telling me off, LOL!

I am supposed to run 6 miles today but I do have tap class from 6-7 and dinner after that. So I will see if the gym calls to me. I usually run better with 2 days off before a long run and on Saturday the TNT group (including me) is running 14 miles! That is more than a half marathon! So I may take today off!

:::Peace:::

Cooling Down

The heat wave has left us! That is good news for runners :)

WOW 229 hits on my site! I love it!!! Thank you so much.

Not much has changed so far this week. I am actually stumped for words and that doesn't happen very often. So I think it will be a short post...

I took Monday off as a rest day and took care of laundry too. I had a migrane that day so I was very greatful for ALL of Jeremy's help with the laundry!

Yesterday I went out to the back bay with the TNT crew and we had a BLAST running 6 miles! Gwynne joined us and she did awesome. It has been 2 weeks since she has ran with us... we missed her!

Today I am running 7 miles at the back bay with Coach Paul. I have been so busy with life things that I will be so happy when the weekend comes and I can get some R & R! Last Friday I had scratched my rim on my car and I am getting that repaired and I am currently driving with the spare tire (donut) on my car. How Sad :( I also got up earlier this morning than normal for a dr. visit and my dr. said that she can tell when people are runners by the sound of your heart. Instead of little thump, thump its more like boom, boom! Pretty cool :)~ now you know some new info about runners hearts!

As far as how I am feeling.... it is pretty good. I was a little sore when I woke up and my knees ached a little, but as the day progressed I feel GOOD! I think my body is getting used to all the running finally.

I don't know if I mentioned this in a prior post but Gwynne and I have signed up for the Disney Half-Marathon! She wants to complete it in a 10 minute mile pace or less. We will see how that goes and I will keep you posted on the results for that one too. The date of that race is August 31st! It will be a hot one, I am sure!

I think that is it, oh wait... I am only $397 away from making my donation minimum so if you have donated THANK YOU and if you haven't then PLEASE help me out by visiting my donation page, http://www.active.com/donate/tntors/tntorsMPires any donation big and small gets me closer to making my minimum amount. If I get 2 people to donate $10.00 then I am a whole percent closer... that is not bad considering I only have 15% to go!

Maybe it wasn't as short as I thought it was going to be... thanks for checking in on me.

Stay tuned for more tomorrow!

Heat Wave

Saturday was very eventful. We began our 12 mile run at 7:15am and it was already almost 70 degrees! When I got back from my run it was 91 degrees and only 2 and 1/2 hours had past. We were supposed to be working on pace that day and it was too hot for it. My pace was 11:37/mi. with the walk breaks. I ran with Mentor Lisa and we drank alot on the course! I went through my whole 20oz bottle of watered down gatorade and refilled it at one of the hydration stops! When I got back to my car I grabbed another gatorade but this one wasn't watered down... and that made me feel much better. I must say that I drank ALL DAY long and felt thirsty all day.

I went to Gina (Evan's Mom) birthday bash. She had the bone marrow and blood drive for her birthday. It was a huge success with a huge result of 80 donors and out of that 24 + people donated a pint of blood each! I tried to donate but my Hemoglobin was at 12.4 and they want you at 12.5 + to donate. I was within normal range though (12.1-15.9) so that was good news! I told Coach Paul and he said that my levels could be low due to all my training! After all, I had just ran 12 miles! Gina and her family and friends were just amazing and I felt very comfortable around ALL of them. I know her through her caringbridge website (http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/evancousineau) for her son Evan my teammate in Heaven! I did join the bone marrow registry in memory of Evan!

After that I took a much needed nap and then went to dinner with Jeremy at Ruby's and then Disneyland for some dancing and rides!

Sunday we went to the beach and it was so HOT! I saw more lady bugs yesterday than ever before, and the cute baby birds on the shore with the big birds. The Santa Ana winds were here this weekend and it showed because we rarely see Catalina from Huntington Beach and yesterday it was clear as a bell!

Today I have tap class and since it is a rest day I will probably cater to my plants! One plumeria tree needs to be replanted and they all needs plenty of water. I hope to do laundry today too!

Tomorrow starts mid-week training! The goal set for this week is 37 miles and the weather is supposed to be much cooler so that should help in my running times throughout the week. As for bowling! I didn't bowl that great yesterday and I hope that next week is much different! We have 2 Wins and 12 Loss as of week #2 of 23 in my league! Let's turn that around too!

have a happy monday!

Treading new ground!

12 miles down and only 18 more to go. Today I will be enjoying my time at tap class and then taking a break for a few hours until my hubby comes home from work. Then we are going to have a nice evening run to the beach!

Yesterday Coach Paul and I decided to take a different route along Jamboree and on the other side of the back bay. Well my legs got a great workout with more hills on the new route and even one really steep hill where bikers were getting off their bikes and walking up the hill... that's how steep it was! NOT a good sign in my opinion. None-the-less, I had a blast! I ended up going home and getting a bite to eat around 8pm and then took a nice hot shower that was much needed! I had some time to relax and then I was off to bed. Unfortunately I didn't sleep well but so far I have enough spunk in me to accomplish the tasks ahead of me for today!

Choo Choo

Lot's of laughs on the course yesterday with David and Honored teammate Jason! David is Jason's twin brother and they love "Thomas the Train"! I am sure most 3 1/2 yr old's love that show :)

Well on about mile 4 of 6 yesterday David would yell out Chug-a-chug-a-choo-choo and then in sync both Elizabeth (TNT participant) and myself yelled out "Choo-Choo" each time we did this the kids would belly-laugh so hard! They were shocked when a bicycler passing by said "Choo, Choo" with us! Well that was a great time and sure helped pass the last two miles by very quickly. Coach Paul did a great job keeping our pace of 10:33/mile pushing the double stroller on the hills and through out the course. That was about 80lbs of weight to push and run... so way to go Coach Paul!

We had less laundry than normal... usually I do 5-6 loads and thankfully it was only 4 loads yesterday. Jeremy helped since my stomach was not 100% yesterday. I have been low energy this week and getting up in the morning is very difficult. Last night I was asleep before Jeremy got out of the shower. That is how quick I went to bed... my body says extra rest and luckily Jeremy helped with laundry so I could get that much needed sleep. By the sound of this blog, you may think I am deprived of this sleep thing... but I actually have been sleeping 8+ hours a night both Monday, Tuesday, and I am hopeful that today will be no different.

Gwynne had a test today so she studied for her exam last night instead of running with us! Boy did she miss out on the entertainment, she would have enjoyed helping us stay in tune to the "Choo, Choo" for the kids. She is hoping to hit the trails at Newport Back Bay today with Coach Paul and myself. I am hoping for a pace under 10min/mile! Wish me luck!

Every hour that goes by today, my stomach feels a little better! I pray whatever is trying to attack my body... leaves this instant!

Thank you for listening and stay tuned for more updates tomorrow!

Whew

A new training schedule started yesterday... and it said to "REST" so I went to my tap class and had some fun. Not quite resting though, it is more like a cross training day!

My calves hurt pretty bad on Saturday after my 17 mile run with the Team, other things that hurt were my knees and a little pain in the hips! Today though I feel GREAT and I am having the urge to run while I sit at my desk at work!

This week looks like this:
  • Today (Tuesday) I am going to run 6 miles with Coach Paul, other TNTers, and hopefully Gwynne will join us at the Back Bay of Newport! I then need to attend to my several loads of laundry.
  • Wednesday I will be at Back Bay with Coach Paul for another round of 6 miles
  • Thursday I have my tap class and then I am going to run in the evening with Jeremy
  • Friday is a REST day as I usually rest on Friday's TGIF to ALL!
  • Saturday is 12 miles in Irvine at Heritage Park with the TNT group! Then I am going to San Clemente to donate blood in HONOR of EVAN COUSINEAU. He is one of the kiddos I am running in memory of. It will be a privilege to help others here and also FINALLY get a chance to meet Evan's Mom and Family! It is Gina's 45th Birthday and she is hosting a blood drive and bone marrow drive in memory/honor of her son EVAN! After that I will be at Disney with my hubby swing dancing with him and other friends!
  • Sunday is bowling with my league team... our new name here is "Streaking Strikers" I don't get many strikes so streaking is minimal, LOL!

Total goal miles are 30 for this week! I will be at 6/30 today! This should be an easier week than last week but still a challenge to make the full 30 miles!

Wish me luck and keep me in your prayers as I would like this week to be pain free or close to it!

:::PEACE:::

Lost & Found

I couldn't wait to tell you the news.... I got lost today on the run! Anyone who knows me... knows my lack of direction by foot or car, LOL!

The important thing is that I was found by my TNT friend Megan and her boyfriend. Although I had a ride to Heritage Park on the way back... I did accomplish my 16miles +1 for being lost! I made a wrong turn and no other TNTer's were around me at that time! So silly me takes a familiar looking bridge thinking it is the one I have taken before and I was certainly wrong for THINKING.! I always struggle with thinking... now my feet and legs are feeling the reprocutions.

My total miles this week are 33.5 of the 36 goal set from TNT! Well I do have to say one thing about the team.... they ARE a GREAT team to belong to. They knew I was lost because ALL the runners came in and I was MISSING, lol! So they sent out a search party to find me.... and now I am found, showered, and moments from snuggling up for a LONG nap with my feet elevated!

Here is the kicker on cell phones.... when you really need to use one, like in this case with me today.... they don't work! It was completely my fault though... I ran out of space in my nutrition belt to put my cell phone in their... so I put it in the bra! Well long story short.... it accumulated too much moisture in the battery compartment and is now sleeping! I will find out tomorrow if a new battery will fix the problem or if I need a new phone.... BUT that is for another day when I have time and energy... I have the time today but the energy is not with me at the moment!

Tonight [post nap] I am going to dinner with Jeremy and then we are heading to Disneyland to do our routine swing dance at Carnation Plaza.

Wish me luck on the dancing ability after this detoured run of 17 miles! I can't thank everyone enough for helping me get back on course... several strangers, TNT search party, and MEGAN for picking up so I didn't have to go ALL the way up that BIG hill after 17 miles.

For the non-runners reading this. It wasn't the fact that I couldn't finish but mentally I was done. This event is just as much a mental game as it is physically! Mentally I was prepared for 16 and so anything more than that I mentally felt incapable of finishing! On the physical side, I feel pretty good.. yeah I am sore but not that bad! This mileage is ONLY 10 miles away from what I am completing for the marathon! I CAN DO IT!!!! [with the help of my team of course]

Thank you all for being part of my team! Yes I am talking to you.... my fans!

You got an early udate, as I said that I would post on Monday.... don't worry I still will post on Monday but it will be more on the aftermath of running... how is Mel feeling the day after and so forth!

Cingular (AT &T) is on my agenda tomorrow as having no cell phone is quite torture for me!

Thank you for reading my blog... remember you can comment on my site and I LOVE to read your comments!

Thank God for Friday's and answered prayers!

Happy Friday!

I have completed 16.5 miles from Monday - Wednesday! The goal for this week is 36! It looks like I will be a little under but that is fine with me! I am running 16 miles tomorrow morning so those of you who read my journal and get up at 7am... you can think of me :)~ I have never ran more than 13.1 so I am a little (nur-buss) nervous, LOL! The total completed miles after that run will be my highest mileage in a week too... 32.5 :)~

I know that is boring stuff so let's get the fun stuff going...

Prayer works and ye of little faith (dad, LOL) I promised to go running with Jeremy on Wednesday and for the locals who read this... the forecast said showers! Later, after my promise was made I made plans to run a 6 miler with Coach at the back bay. So I ran with coach and the sky was clear of clouds. SO I PRAYED ALOT... I didn't want to back out of my promise with Jeremy but I also didn't want to run that evening again either! So I was online at the weather channel website "hour-by-hour" and at 9:30pm it said only 30% chance of showers... then at 10pm it was 50% chance of showers... Jeremy and I usually go out at about 9:45-10pm.. my dad kept telling me to suit up for the run and I had already taken a shower and got in my pj's... I so badly didn't want to suit up... and if you saw my attire... I definitely had FAITH! I kept telling my dad that when 2 people pray then the prayers are answered and he knows this to be true too even knowing the actual verse that God promises in the bible... I am not that good! I struggle with memorizing things and verses are no different! So when the hubby came home I knew it started to drizzle and I asked him if he wanted to go out... Luckily his answer was NO... my prayers were answered :) But I still wasn't off the hook... he postponed the running to Thursday!

Well Thursday came and Jeremy usually is home by 9:30 tops! He wasn't home and I really wanted to put the pj's on and not have to suit up so I waited until 9:45 to call him and he said he was going to be on his way home from work in a few minutes... I then told him of my plans to shower and put the jays on... he agreed it was too late to run... so again ANSWERED PRAYERS!
God knows the desires of your heart.... and my heart wasn't into running both nights - AMEN!

I am happy to announce my fundraising efforts are doing GREAT... I am 83% complete and I only have $463 to go [$2800-$2337]! If you haven't donated and would like to... my donation website is http://www.active.com/donate/tntors/tntorsMPires!

Have a great weekend, wish me luck!

Check back on Monday for my next post!

April Fool's Day

Miles this week to date 5.25/36

I haven't had an opportunity today to play jokes on anyone YET, LOL!

I cam back from vegas yesterday and I can honestly say that the trip was eventful. I lost the money I brought with me but I had fun anyway! Jeremy and I missed eachother for the 4 days of seperation. I had over 70 e-mails to look at when I got home and I also managed to run 5.25 miles, tap dance an hour, and get 6 loads of laundry done with the help of my hubby!

Last week I ran a total of 26 miles w/o going to training on Sat. so I thought that was pretty good. This week though I have a goal of 36 miles to accomplish, which would be the first time I have EVER ran in the 30 mile mark for a week! So if I break 30 miles than I am happy with myself and accomplishments.

Recap since the last posting... I ran on Thursday for 6 LONG miles and boy was it tough! I don't even think I had a 10 minute pace :( The one hill that kills me on the back bay run REALLY did me in that time! I was going to take Friday off since I ran 4 days straight and instead I ran 3 miles at the gym with Erin once we arrived in Vegas. Saturday and Sunday consisted of walking, and eating YUMMY food. for entertainment I went swimming in the pool, played on the slots, andshopping.

That is the quick sum of what you missed on "Melissa LIVE"
